Funny as hell business card ideas - your input needed...

Here's the deal - a boring, plain, blah business card costs just as much to print as a funny, powerful, and attractive business card.

Which category does YOUR business card fall into?

Right now, I'm trying to create a creative, funny, inspirational business card that's gonna have a strong "pass around" factor - funny as hell... or different... or something.

I gave my awesome designer, Erin Hyland, of www.jackoutofthebox.com a design assignment - actually it's not just a design assignment, it's a creative assignment.

What do YOU think of any of the following ideas?

Starters / initial thoughts: I wanted to put something clever on the back, such as:

If you hate marketers, I'm a professional speaker... If you hate professional speakers, I'm a marketer. Nyah-nyah!

- OR -

Our firm also does business under ALL of the following names:

  • Someone Else ("We decided to hire someone else")
  • A Different Direction ("We're going in a different direction")
  • A Budget of Zero ("We have a budget of zero")
  • Our Current Agency ("We're happy with our current agency")

If you're considering one of these other options, please continue to make checks payable to David Newman

Or I could go in this direction... man, is this ever TEMPTING:

Marketing speaker, funny business card

What's the funniest, cleverest, wittiest copy you've ever seen on a business card?

Let me know in the COMMENTS area below - in fact, the best idea will win something cool from me. [No, it's not a puppy.]

Ok, that's too funny, I'm think I need something like the card above. I'd hand it out just before I discuss the importance of picking a niche.

My favorite has always been the 'fill the name in the blank' business card. It screams loudly: "This dude hasn't been here long, and we don't plan on keeping him much longer either!"
Posted @ Thursday, May 07, 2009 3:16 PM by Jeff Korhan
LOL, that's perfect.

Hi my name is _____, I work at Tom Inc, my position is ______.

Toss in a logo and the number to reception in case they leave, and you're set.

Funny but at what price? Unless you are selling comedy, don't go too far in this direction. A lttle lightheared maybe. I just don't see the real estate on the biz card for it. A hunmorous card could be used to make a point about problems you solve or opportunties you seize for clients, but then immediately hand out the real card.

Humor is best in a bio--even then sparingly. You can load your speeches and presentations wiith humor--as support for a point and to make it memorable.

Get the business then have fun.

And that doesn't mean you, your brand, and you can't have a distinct personality.

Over to you dude. Time to reschedule a little one on one time.

Dave- one of the best I've seen simply read "My Card" and nothing else.

By the way, great presentation at NSA Ga the other week!

The professionals at my hair salon have this on their cards:
Name
Daymaker

If they did their job well they would indeed have made my day.

Cynthia,
Awesome! And thanks for making MY day with your comment.

I do not get caught up with too much of the wording on the card but I have seen some really creative shapes. I saw one card that looked like it had a burn hole right through the center and it was tied to the occupation somehow. Like I am a loan officer and my card looks like a 100 dollar bill but has my info on it. Anything creative like that stands out

Joe - Totally true. The point is to get SOME sort of reaction. Either "Wow" or a laugh or a comment. Same-o Lame-o cards mean you're just like the next guy. If you're just like the next guy, you're DEAD!

Love this idea! It clearly doesn't work for everyone, but it's a creative way of standing out and making people laugh. Who doesn't want to work with someone who has a (tasteful) sense of humour?

It could be really useful in the crafting of pocket CVs as well. Keeps you memorable!

Holly - Thank you for your comment. Spot on!

I'll never ever forget this one from my septic tank service provider in New London, Wisconsin: "Your shit is our bread and butter!"
Posted @ Saturday, April 07, 2012 7:47 AM by Tom Davidson
Tom - Ha! Love that one. Classic. And very much in line with his core value prop!! Thanks for sharing it.

I use the title "Mompreneur" in mine and it's a great conversation starter. It gets me to tell them the story of how I started the business.
Posted @ Thursday, April 12, 2012 1:34 AM by Nina
Nina - Yes indeed. A great business name and a great title on your card are both excellent ways to open a conversation and tell your company's story framed in the way(s) that bring value to your prospects and customers. Thanks for your comment.

This'd be the most engaging I've come across:

Rauno, Thanks for your comment. That's great - you could also go even further by saying something like: "And here's your free autograph:" and then offer to sign your card for your recipient! Lots of creative options - and they'll all work IF they fit your brand, your personality, and your value prop.

My friend Deb Sofield has a cartoon of herself, and 16 different speaking tips (one per card) - so her business cards are considered by some collector's items. Ups the number of cards you give out, but increases your memorability. (Is that a word?)

Erika - Love that idea. Collector cards! Get one of each for a complete set. And yes, we can now officially call MEMORABILITY a word :o)

At the bottom of my card I have a box. Nest to the box it says "Rich's initials required here before adding his name to ANY distribution lists"

And David.....you know what I do when people just add me to lists.

Rich,
You check my box and I'll check your box. In other words, check out this video to see what happened per your point.

Thanks for reading and for posting your comment!

A local pet-grooming service business card reads: "Dirty Dogs Done Dirt Cheap"
How's that for a conversation starter?

Barry,
THAT is awesome. And my dog, Woofie, would also be very impressed. You can visit her online at http://whereswoofie.com
